A funeral service for John Blain and Betty Jean (Temple) Taylor will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, June 21, 2016 at the Axtell-Landreth Funeral Home in Axtell, KS. Burial will follow in the Rosehill Cemetery, Axtell. John Blain Taylor, 81, of Alexandria passed away on Wednesday, December 30, 2015, at Grace Home. He is preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Betty Jean (Temple) Taylor; daughter, Elizabeth Taylor; and three brothers. John retired from the United States Air Force after 24 years of service as a Senior Master Sergeant. He also retired after 20 plus years with the City of Alexandria Electrical Department. John was always involved in the local sports, having coached his children's and grandchildren's teams. He was a Baptist by faith. John loved restoring antique cars, camping and fishing. Betty Jean (Temple) Taylor passed away on August 29, 2015 at Grace Home of Alexandria. She is preceded in death by her parents, Dallas and Willa Temple; and one daughter, Elizabeth Taylor. Betty was born and raised in Axtell, KS. After graduating high school, she became a licensed beautician. Betty maintained her cosmetology license throughout her life. Prior to Betty becoming a beautician she worked for a radio station which broadcast Back to the Bible. After meeting her husband, Betty became a housewife and followed her husband during his Air Force career. Betty was a devoted mother and always supported her children and her devotion continued when she became a grandmother. She loved flowers, hummingbirds, painting, reading, and having coffee with her friends. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend to many. Betty will be dearly missed. Those left to cherish their memory include their daughters, Patricia Taylor and Dorretta Malensek; grandson, Daniel Malensek, all of Alexandria. John's sister, Iva Lois Miller and her husband Bernard, of Deep Gap, NC; John’s brother, Paul Taylor of Vilas, NC; Betty Jean's sister, Mary Cronk and husband Roger; and nieces and nephews, Allan Taylor, Larry Cronk, Kimberly Drapal; great nephew and nieces, Dallas, Kelsy and Lily.
