Arthur Munstermann, 87, of Hanover, KS, died Monday, June 8, 2009 at the Hanover Hospital. A funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, June 12 at the Trinity Lutheran Church northeast of Hanover. Rev. Rodney Fritz officiated. Arlyce Klipp played the organ while soloist David Heuer sang "How Great Thou Art". The congregation sang "I Am But A Stranger Here", "Jesus Lives" and "Jesus Lead Thou On". Pallbearers were Dennis Hartig, Dale Adam, Kyle Munstermann, Donny Meyer, Bruce Munstermann and Mark Munstermann. Honorary pallbearers were John Frauhiger, Larry Hartig, James Frauhiger, Scott Sumpter, Brandon Wohler, Kevin Robbins and Colton Beckmann. Burial was in the church cemetery. Arthur Herbert Munstermann was born on July 28, 1921 on the family farm homesteaded by his grandfather near Hanover, Kansas, the son of Herman Munstermann and his wife Emma Niemann Munstermann. Art received his gift of eternal life on June 8, 2009 while a resident at the Hanover Long Term Care Facility. Art was 87 years, 10 months, and 10 days old. Art was Baptized into the Christian faith on August 7, 1921 at Trinity Lutheran Church of Hanover, Kansas, by the Rev. H.F.C. Grupe. His sponsors were Herman Due-using, August Kruse, William Brei and Herbert Niemann. On April 5, 1936 Art became a Communicant Member of Trinity through the Rite of Confirmation. The service was conducted by The Rev. Dr. William Mahler. On December 26, 1950 Art was united in marriage to Shirley Lichtenberger, the service held at Trinity and was conducted by the Rev. Theodore Kauffled. Art served his Lord as a lifelong member of Trinity. He served his country as a member of the United States Army in World War II. He served in the South Pacific Theater of Operations in the Aleutian islands, saw combat action as a member of the 50th Engineering Corps, Company B in the Marshall Islands, and was wounded in action on Lady Island. Art received the Purple Heart in October of 1944. After the war Art returned home to farm. Art was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Emma; wife, Shirley; two brothers, Alfred and Herman Munstermann; and two sisters, Bertha Hartig and Leona Adam. Survivors include five children, Patricia Frauhiger and husband Victor of Herkimer, KS, Marjory Scrivner and husband Robert of Americus, KS, Alice Munstermann of Clay Center, KS, Carol Owen and husband Rick of Green, KS, and Kenneth Munstermann and wife Teresa of Hanover; one sister, Erna Swartz of Beatrice, NE; two sisters-in-law, Lucille Munstermann of Wichita, KS, and Coral Schroeder of Royal Center, IN; two brothers-in-law, Ralph Lichtenberger and wife Joann of Ceresco, NE, and Rex Lichtenberger and wife Byrtilla of Beatrice; nineteen grandchildren, twenty-four great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and friends.
