William “Bill” Fred Nienaber, 93, died in Boulder, CO on June 10, 2009, at the Hospice Care Center of Boulder and Broomfield Counties. A funeral service was held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, June 17 at St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery in Lahnam, KS. Pastor Jill Rettig officiated. Mae Nieman played the organ while the congregation sang "Children of the Heavenly Father", "Take My Life", "Because He Lives" and "It is Well With My Soul". Elissa Schotte sang "Precious Lord Take My Hand" and "Softly and Tenderly Jesus is Calling". Pallbearers were James Niemeier, Randy Niemeier, Ron Schmitz, James Nienaber, Richard Stolte and Orville Nienaber. Burial was in the church cemetery. Bill was born April 26, 1916 near Lanham, KS, the son of Fred and Tena Nienaber. He was baptized and confirmed in St. John's Lutheran Church in Lanham. On June 10, 1951, he married Mildred Niemeier. They made their home in Hanover, KS, where he owned and operated Bill's Barber Shop until 1952. During the following years, he worked with his brother, Walter, building homes in Beatrice, NE. In 1959, Bill and Mildred moved to Boulder, where he worked as a carpenter and cabinetmaker until his retirement. Bill was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, a member of the NRA and also the Boulder Rifle Club. In addition, he enjoyed traveling and photography. Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Mildred; two sisters, Mildred Lauterbach of Odell, NE and Helen Stolte of Greeley, CO; sisters-in-law, Deloris Nienaber of Boulder and Delores Nienaber of Hanover, KS. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Rosetta Stolte; brothers, Fred Nienaber and Walter Nienaber; and brothers-in-law, Clarence Stolte, Lloyd Lauterbach and Elmer Stolte. Memorials may be made to Hospice Care of Boulder and Broomfield Counties or Trinity Lutheran Church. Contributions may be sent in care of Hanover Mortuary.
