Drusilla “Dru” Maldoon, 81, Ahwatukee, AZ, died Saturday, June 13, 2009, due to complications from spinal stenosis. A celebration of life will be at 9:30 a.m. Friday, June 19, at Corpus Christi Church, Phoenix. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 26, at St. Gregory’s Catholic Church, Marysville. Burial will be in the church cemetery. She was born on Feb. 5, 1928, at Marysville, daughter of Frank and Geneva Graves. She graduated from Marysville High School in 1945. She worked for the Beatrice Daily Sun and later the Marysville Advocate Democrat. She first wrote local briefs and set her own type for the Advocate and then succeeded her friend, Mrs. Byron E. Guise, as society editor. She married Raymond Maldoon. She worked for AT&T and affiliated phone companies and later went to work for Quest, Phoenix, in 1981, becoming the first woman to be promoted to management. She enjoyed continuing friendships with many of her Marysville classmates. Survivors include her husband; a son, Christopher Welch, Chandler, Ariz.; sisters Susie Graves Krepel, Denver, and Mary Graves Piersanti, Salt Lake City, Utah; brothers Jack Graves, Sun City West, Ariz., and Mike Graves, Casa Grande, Ariz.; and two grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and daughter Corrine Welch. Memorial contributions can be made to Hospice of the Valley or Arizona Humane Society.
