Helen Mary Johnson , 92, of Atchison, KS, passed away Wednesday, June 17, 2009 at her daughter’s home with her by her side. Graveside services were held at 3:00 p.m., Monday, June 22, at the Home Cemetery, Home, KS. Mrs. Johnson was in state Monday, June 22, from 11:00 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. at Kinsley Mortuary, 1006 Broadway, Marysville, KS. The family received friends from 1-2:30 p.m. at Kinsley's. Helen was in state at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home Saturday, June 20th and Sunday, June 21st. Memorials in honor of Mrs. Johnson are suggested to the First Christian Church, BSA Troop 92 ,both of Atchison, and the Evangelical United Church of Christ, Marysville, KS. Online condolences may be left at www.beckerdyer.com. Helen was born July 1, 1916 in Walnut Township, Marshall County, KS the daughter of James Laurence and Hanna (Hanson) Cook. She was a farm wife who belonged to the Social Hour Club, The Shepherd’s Center, Searcher’s Bible Class and the YMCA Book Club. Helen married Lee Roy Johnson on December 18, 1935. Together they had one daughter; Dianna Kruger who survives in Atchison along with her son; Jordan P.F.L. Kruger. Helen was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother; John Peter Cook, sister; Margaret Schneider, son-in-law; Caddy Kruger and a nephew; John Novotny.
