Jay E. Peckham, 72, of Frankfort, KS, died Tuesday, June 30, 2009 at Reno, NV. A funeral service was held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, July 9, at the United Methodist Church in Frankfort. Rev. Norma Jeane Miller, Father Jim Shaughnessy and Rev. Richard Coleman officiated. Carol Hood played the organ while the Sweet Adeline's sang "Friends" and "Thank You Dear Lord for Music". Visitation was Wednesday from 4 until 8 p.m. at Padden Funeral Chapel. The pallbearers were Dale Musil, Glenn Holsapple, Phil Fetters, Mike Clark, George Feldhausen, Dale Nash, W.G. Standley and Dave Raseta. Burial was in the Sunset Cemetery, Manhattan. Jay was born July 19, 1936 at Medford, OR, the son of Jacob W. and Paulyne E. (Newby) Peckham. He attended school in Wichita and graduated from Wichita East High School and received a pharmacy degree from Kansas City University in Kansas City, MO. Jay co-owned Peckham Pharmacy for 25 years in Frankfort. He also worked for Wal-Mart Pharmacy, Horton Health Foundation, Community Memorial Healthcare and Kickapoo Nation Health Center. He served as a delegate to the annual conference for the Frankfort United Methodist Church, Frankfort Community Care Home board of directors and the Twin Valley Developmental Services board of directors. Survivors include his wife, Sue; one daughter, Kai Louise Foor of Junction City, KS; one son, Jef Lee Peckham of Washington, DC; and one sister, Polly Anne McMillan of Wichita, KS. Memorials may be made to the Jay Peckham Pharmacy Scholarship - ESA Foundation. Contributions may be sent in care of Padden Funeral Chapel.
