Lawrence A. Goeckel, 84, Hanover, died Friday, September 30, 2016 at Cambridge Place, Marysville. Visitation was Sunday, October 2, from noon until 5 p.m. at the Hanover Mortuary. A rosary service was held at 7 p.m., Sunday, at St. John’s Catholic Church in Hanover. Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, October 3 at St. John’s Catholic Church. Father Joseph Kieffer officiated. Janet Fritschi played the organ while the church choir sang “How Can I Keep from Singing”, “Here I Am Lord”, “Ave Maria”, “On Eagles Wings”, and “May the Choir of Angels Come to Greet You”. The pallbearers were Ryan Siedhoff, Dan Siedhoff, Richard Nietfeld, Jake Milligan, Ron Goeckel and Mark Goeckel. Burial will be in the St. John’s Catholic Cemetery. Lawrence was born at rural Hanover on December 22, 1931 to Anton J. and Regina (Overwald) Goeckel. He graduated Hanover High School and was a lifelong farmer. Lawrence was united in marriage to Joyce Drebes and they were blessed with five daughters. He was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus and sang with the church choir. He served on the school board and the Farmers Coop board. Reading, fishing, carving and drawing were some of his favorite hobbies. Lawrence also collected antiques. Preceding him in death were his parents; wife, Joyce in 2007; infant son, Anthony; sisters, Cecila Koppes and Gertrude Kennedy; and granddaughter, Kelsey Holle. Survivors include his daughters, Becky Goeckel, Salina, Pat (Jim) Siedhoff, Frederic, WI, Donna (Sam) Welch, Columbus, NE, Tami Holle, Hanover, and Christine (Lauren) Flaming, Newton; sister, Bernice (John) Nietfeld, Marysville; six grandchildren, four great grandchildren and step grandchildren. A memorial fund is established and will be designated later by the family. Contributions may be sent in care of the Hanover Mortuary.
