Larry Patrick Forgey, 72, Marysville, died Monday, October 24, 2016 at Kansas City Hospice House. Visitation was Friday, October 28, from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m., at Kinsley Mortuary in Marysville. A rosary service was held at 7 p.m., Friday, at St. Gregory's Catholic Church, Marysville. Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10 a.m., Saturday, October 29, at St. Gregory's Catholic Church. Father Nathan Haverland officiated. Burial was in the church cemetery. Larry was born July 17, 1944 at Marysville, to Harold Edward and Alice Margery (Wassenberg) Forgey. In 1962, he graduated from Marysville High School and from Kansas State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in History and Political Science. He finished his college degree after serving in the U.S. Army. Larry served during the Vietnam Era as a Communications Specialist. He served mainly in Germany. Larry was a lifetime member of St. Gregory’s Catholic Church and a member of the American Legion. He worked for the Union Pacific Railroad most of his life. He was assistant chief yard clerk. Larry was an avid reader, enjoying mysteries, history, archaeology and Native American culture. He strongly identified with his Irish and German heritage and enjoyed reading about these. When he was younger, he played golf and sometimes traveled to different places to play. He and his wife loved traveling throughout the US. They would rent houseboats or condos, took cruises and collected seashells on the Florida beaches. Larry also enjoyed photography. On February 4, 1989, he was united in marriage to Debra Evans at Vermillion. She preceded him in death on December 10, 2010. He was also preceded by his parents. Larry is survived by his sister, Donna Forgey, Prairie Village, KS. A memorial fund is established to KSU Foundation; Humane Society .
