Anna Marie (Porting) Kuckelman, 82, Axtell, died Sunday, December 4, 2016, at Seneca, Kansas. Visitation was Thursday, December 8, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Axtell-Landreth Funeral Home in Axtell. A rosary was recited at 7:00 p.m., Thursday, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Axtell. Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, December 9, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church. The pallbearers were her grandsons: David Temple, Drew Kuckelman, Adam Kuckelman, James Stallbaumer, Dylan Schmitz, and Jacob Schmitz. Burial was in St. Michael’s Catholic Cemetery. Anna Marie was born February 14, 1934, at Axtell, Kansas, the daughter of Peter and Irene (Godbout) Porting. She attended school in Axtell and graduated in 1951. In addition to her education, she and John owned and operated the City Cafe in Axtell. She later provided daycare for many children in Axtell and the surrounding area. With their union on June 9th, 1955, John and Anna Marie had 8 children: Betty (Tom) Temple, Marysville, Kansas, Patty (Mike) Krogman, Axtell, Kansas, Rohn Kuckelman, Seneca, Kansas, Bob (Rose) Kuckelman, Axtell, Kansas, June (Jerry) Stallbaumer, Seneca, Kansas, Shirley (Alan) Schmitz, Baileyville, Kansas, Rose (Greg) Morris, Worms, Nebraska, and Donna (Roger) Koch, Axtell, Kansas. She is survived by 25 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, as well as 2 sisters, Margie (Leo) Buessing and Dorothy (Bob) Landrum. She also leaves behind 3 special sisters-in-law, Alice Porting, Sarah Porting, and Darlene Porting. Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. She is preceded in death by her parents, Peter and Irene; husband John; siblings, Mary Kay Burdolski, Eileen Shaughnessy, Alfred Porting, Gene Porting, Rita Kuckelman, and Gerald (Butch) Porting. Anna Marie took pride in her family especially when she became a grandma and great grandma over and over again. When she was surrounded by children, she was at her happiest. She was well known for her baking and her cinnamon rolls were enjoyed by many. Her legacy continues through her niece Lora Porting who has perfected making her famous rolls.
