Verna D. Riggert, 93, of Marysville, KS, died Thursday, December 8, 2016 at St. Elizabeth's Regional Medical Center in Lincoln, NE. Visitation was Sunday, December 11, from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., at Kinsley Mortuary in Marysville. The family received friends from 3 to 5 p.m. A funeral service was held at 1:00 p.m., Monday, December 12 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church north of Bremen, KS. Rev. Philip Miller officiated. Carol Wright played the organ while the congregation sang “I Know That My Redeemer Lives”, “Abide with Me”, and “Amazing Grace”. The pallbearers were Tracey Koeneke, Travis Koeneke, Steve Manley, Kim Holle, Rob Rombeck, and Hadley Schotte. Burial was in the Bethlehem Lutheran Cemetery. Verna was born July 25, 1923 near Bremen, KS, daughter of Walter and Clara (Sohl) Rengstorf. She attended Bethlehem Lutheran School and lived her entire life in the Bremen and Marysville area. On September 29, 1946, she was united in marriage to Marvin Riggert at Bremen. Verna loved to take care of children at her daycare. She also drove a school bus and worked at Mary Marshall Manor in Marysville. She enjoyed playing cards and visiting with friends. Verna tied quilts and did embroidery. She was a past member of the LWML. Survivors include her two sons, Roger (Sharon) Riggert, Centennial, CO, and Kevin (Judy) Riggert, Omaha, NE; brother, Melvin (Lowine) Rengstorf, Bremen; two sisters, Lola Holle, Bremen, and Adelia Maatsch, Fairbury, NE; son-in-law, Dennis Koeneke, Barneston, NE; brother-in-law, Walt Sears; and sister-in-law, Lola Mae Rengstorf; five grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Marvin on January 18, 2002; daughter, Elizabeth "Betty" Koeneke; sisters, Elvira Carlson and Alice Sears; brother, Eugene Rengstorf; and brothers-in-law, Lloyd Carlson and Fred Maatsch.
