Clarence H. Zumbahlen, 86, of Hanover, KS, died Saturday, August 8, 2009 at the Hanover Hospital. A funeral service was held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, August 11, at St. John's Catholic Church. Father David Metz officiated. Organist was Janet Fritschi. The church choir sang "Be Not Afraid," "Hail Mary, Gentle Woman," "Amazing Grace" and "How Great Thou Art." Pallbearers were Rod Spellman, Scott Slupianek, Dominic Ring, Charles Ring, Michael Ring, Douglas Ring, David Banahan and Lynn Wilson. Burial was in St. John's Catholic Cemetery, Hanover. Clarence was born December 30, 1922 at Beatrice, NE, the son of Henry and Anna (Borzekofski) Zumbahlen. He was a crane operator for missile bases in the midwest, drove a delivery truck for Standard Oil in Hanover and operated a liquor store in Hanover. He was a WWII Army Veteran, member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, Hanover American Legion, St. John's Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus. He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include two sisters, Virginia Ring and Gertrude Holle, both of Marysville, KS. A memorial fund has been established and will be designated at a later date.
