Grace Althea Valentine, 104, Marysville, died Friday, March 24, 2017 at the Cambridge Place, Marysville, KS. Visitation was 5 to 9 p.m., Thursday, March 30, at Kinsley Mortuary in Marysville. The family received friends from 6 to 8 p.m. A graveside funeral service was held at 10:30 a.m., March 31, at the Marysville City Cemetery. Gary Phillips officiated. Grace was born on June 27, 1912, at Salina, KS, to Walter and Agnes (Lindal) Lee. In 1929, she graduated from Randolph High School. Grace married David Woodyard at Randolph, KS. sometime in the 1930's. Grace and David were later divorced. On December 24, 1945, she was united in marriage to August Ray Valentine at Manhattan, KS. August Ray Valentine died in August of 1981 in Marysville, KS. While living in Marysville, Grace worked for The Whering hotel in Manhattan, and at Marysville, she worked for the Thunderbird Motel for several years. She spent many holidays in Colorado with family, up until the time she could no longer travel. The family would pick her up at the Old Train Station in Denver. They had some great times. Grace talked about moving to Colorado to be with her family and made arrangements to do this, but changed her mind because she wanted to stay in Marysville. Grace enjoyed crossword puzzles, card games and especially going to Bingo. She liked gardening, when she was able. Grace liked watching basketball and baseball and really loved the Kansas City Royals. She was one of their biggest fans. She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, David Woodyard and August Ray Valentine; brother, C.K. Lee; son, Dwight R. Valentine; half-brothers, Bravyl Wayne Lee, John Lee, Brovan J. Lee, William Ralph Lee, and Charles Setterquist; and step sister, Brenda Kay Meader. Survivors include her son, Gerald Lee Woodyard, Eastlake, CO; step sons, Bob (Carol) Valentine, Overland, KS, and Lynn Valentine, Layton, Utah; half-brother, Bradley Ray Lee, Kentucky; half-sisters, Hallie Bee Ashbaugh, Tennessee, Mae Pitcock, Bayrca Goodman, and Beverly Gumm, all of Kentucky; step sister, Boneva Gay Baumgardner; and three grandchildren, Steven L. Woodyard, Cathy L. (Gregg) Suchey, and Christy L. Murrone; several step grandchildren; five great grandchildren, Daniel S. Lierman, Jessica D. Phillips, David J. Lierman, Jennifer L. Lierman, and Carla Phillips; and several step great grandchildren; and nine great-great grandchildren. Kinsley Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
