David H. Dettke, 80, of Marysville, KS, died May 5, 2017, surrounded by loving family at the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City. Visitation was Monday, May 8, from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Kinsley Mortuary. The family received friends from 5 to 7 p.m. A funeral service was held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, May 9, at Kinsley Mortuary. Curtis Melcher officiated. Music was by Shane Thoreson. The pallbearers were Don Dettke, Mike Dettke, Brian Dettke, and Andy Dettke. The honorary pallbearers were Nate Dettke, Blake Scott, Drew Dettke, Evan Dettke, Tyler Thoreson, and Shane Thoreson. Burial was in the Marysville City Cemetery. Walt Rudolph officiated. David was born on February 28, 1937, in Marysville, KS, to Gerhardt and Elizabeth (Blosser) Dettke. He graduated from Marysville High School and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Animal Science from Kansas State University. David received an honorable discharge from the United States Army Reserve with the rank of Captain. He was a stockman and farmer until the day he died. On top of that, he was also, for many years, a rural letter carrier. On January 28, 1962, David married the love of his life, Mary Bricker. They enjoyed 54 years and 11 months of marriage until her passing earlier this year. He was passionate about his family, farming, sports, and his faith. Survivors include 7 children, Don Dettke (Andrea), Cindy Thoreson (Byron), Marcia Chaudhry, Mike Dettke (Tori), Chris Dettke (Jason Haley), Brian Dettke (Cheri), and Andy Dettke; sister-in-law, Ann Sutherland; 15 grandchildren, Lauren (Michael) Haxby, Kim, Evan & Drew Dettke, Shane (Laura) Thoreson, Tyler (Lauren) Thoreson, Rachel Rayner, Lela Chaudhry, Blake & Katie Scott, Abby & Nate Dettke, Robin & Kevin Haley, and Chloe Dettke; two great-grandchildren, Henry & Emily Thoreson; and many extended family and friends. A memorial fund has been established to the Hanover Hospital Foundation. Contributions may be sent in care of Kinsley Mortuary.
