Gerald W. Gellinger, 80, of Marysville, died June 14, 2017 at Community Memorial Healthcare in Marysville. Visitation was Monday, June 19, from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Kinsley Mortuary. The family received friends from 5 to 7 p.m. A funeral service was held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, June 20, at the Marysville United Methodist Church. Rev. Dale Lewis officiated. Gail Gilkerson play the organ while Wayne Kruse sang “On Eagles Wings” and Rev. Dale Lewis sang “Save a Place for Me”. The pallbearers were Mark Mason, Tony Gellinger, Ron Thornton, Don Thornton, Tim Ackerman, and Todd Ackerman. The honorary pallbearers were Joe Germer, Greg Price, Tim Grauer, Ron Jacques, Harlan Kruse, Mike Hogan, Richard Temps, Todd Gellinger, and Jimmy Keller. Burial was in the Marysville City Cemetery with Military Honors provided by the Marysville American Legion Post #163. Jerry was born on April 25, 1937 at Marysville to Charles and Susan (Zentz) Gellinger. He graduated from Marysville High School in 1956 and served in the U.S. Navy. Jerry was united in marriage to Betty Wise on September 4, 1960 at Blue Rapids. He worked for the Kansas State Grain Inspection in Kansas City for 17 years, and then they moved back to Marysville in 1976. He then worked for SS&T Grain and after it sold, for the Co-op. Jerry then worked as head of the street department for the city of Marysville for ten years, and then retired. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, American Legion Post 163, Masonic Lodge, Shriners and served on the city council for 10 years. Jerry was a volunteer fire fighter for about 25 years, where he was inspirational in getting the Jaws of Life, he served on the American Legion Honor Guard, worked as a cashier at the sale barn and loved woodworking. Survivors include his wife, Betty; daughter, Michelle (Jerald) Reinhart, two granddaughters, Morgan Reinhart and Jordan Reinhart; great-granddaughter, Ryleigh; brother, Kenneth (June) Gellinger, of Hutchinson, Kansas, sister-in-law, Jean Thornton of Blue Rapids, and nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents; daughter, Melissa Gellinger in 1966; and a granddaughter, Chelsi in 1987. A memorial fund is established and will be designated later.
