Ruth S. (Gleue) Friedrichs, 88, of Herkimer, KS, died Wednesday, July 5, 2017 peacefully at her home surrounded by her family. Visitation was Friday, July 7, from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Kinsley Mortuary. The family received friends from 6 to 7 p.m. A funeral service was held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, July 8, at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Marysville. Rev. Philip Miller officiated. Susan Moore played the organ while Scott Kellersang “What a Friend We Have in Jesus” and the congregation sang “The Lord Is My Shepherd” and “I’m But a Stranger Here.” The pallbearers were Ryan Friedrichs, Kevin Friedrichs, Dan Bigham, Matt Smith, Charles Friedrichs, and Scott Holle. The honorary pallbearers were Steve Friedrichs, David Friedrichs, Bob Friedrichs, and Louis Holle. Burial was in the Zion - Mt. Calvary Lutheran Cemetery, north of Herkimer. Ruth was born on November 15, 1928 at Herkimer to Herman and Alvina (Frerking) Gleue. She was baptized, and confirmed at Zion Lutheran in Herkimer where she taught Sunday school, religion class, and sang in the choir. She attended and graduated from Marysville High School. After graduating she worked at a bank in Marysville where she was a teller and book keeper. On April 17, 1949, Ruth and Fred were united in marriage at Zion Lutheran Church in Herkimer. To this marriage they were blessed with 3 sons. They eventually moved and lived in the farm house where she was born and that her parents built. Ruth enjoyed piecing quilts and then quilting them. She belonged to the Zion Ladies Aid, Herkimer Women’s quilting group, and the Hop Creek Social Club. She loved gardening and canning the produce that she gathered. She especially loved her flowers that she grew. She had the greenest thumb ever. She and Fred loved traveling and they visited many places. They were “Winter Texans” for over 20 years. She was preceded in death by her parents; and 3 sisters, Laura Kos, Lillian King, and Lafern Zentz. Survivors include her husband, Fred; sister, Florence Olsen, Petaluma, CA; 3 sons, Steve (Peg) Friedrichs, Bremen, Dave (Betty) Friedrichs and Bob (Diane) Friedrichs, all of Herkimer; 5 grandchildren, Brooke Friedrichs, Marysville, Megan (Matt) Smith, Herkimer, Kevin (Jessica) Friedrichs, Shawnee, KS, Ryan (Melissa) Friedrichs, Marysville, and Kari (Dan) Bigham, Grantville, KS; and 6 great-grandchildren, Brett Friedrichs, Duke Smith, Clara and Emmett Friedrichs, and Korie and Case Friedrichs. Memorial contributions may be made to Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church or Meadowlark Hospice. Contributions may be sent in care of Kinsley Mortuary.
