George Paul Cohorst, 78, Marysville, died Tuesday, September 22, 2009, at his home. A rosary was at 7:00 p.m., Sunday, September 27, at St. Gregory's Catholic Church in Marysville. A funeral service was held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, September 28, at the church. The Rev. Anthony Putti officiated. Rochelle and Robert Calhoun sang “Be Not Afraid,” “Prayer of St. Francis,” “I Can Only Imagine,” “Song of Farewell” and “On Eagles’ Wings.” Pallbearers were Jeremy Cohorst, Jared Soppe, Steven Hoak, Bryant Jones, James Hartshorn, Jerry Hartshorn, Alan Detimore and Scott Wokutch. Honorary pallbearers were Jason Cohorst, Josh Cohorst, A.J. Lederer and Caleb Jones. Burial was in the church cemetery. George was born August 24, 1931, the son of Paul and Blanche (Reiter) Cohorst. He was a trainman conductor and rules instructor. On January 27, 1951, he married Carol Berkley. They raised seven children and four grandchildren, Christine Daniels, Amy Detimore, Steven Hoak and Angela Willard. He was a member of St. Gregory’s Catholic Church and Railroad Old Timers. He enjoyed camping with the Good Sam group and gardening. Survivors include his wife; son, Robert, Olathe; daughters, Suzan Early, Grandville, Virginia Soppe, Meriden, Janis Myrick, Topeka, Jerriann Ledered, Meriden, Laura Hartshorn, Tonganoxie, and Kathi Jones, Marysville; brothers, Clarence, Marysville, and Richard, Lake City, Fla.; sister, Delores Mohan, Topeka; 25 grandchildren; and 36 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.
