Wilfrid A. (Pete) Wassenberg, 86, Frankfort, formerly of Marysville, died Monday, July 17, 2017 at Manhattan, Kansas. Visitation was 9 a.m., Thursday, July 20 at St. Gregory’s Catholic Church. A rosary service was at 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial was at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, July 20 at St. Gregory’s Catholic Church. Father Nathan Haverland officiated. Organist was Sterling Clark and the hymns were "Here I Am Lord," "Behold the Lamb," "Precious Lord, Take My Hand," " Song of Farewell" and "How Great Thou Art." Pallbearers were Jacub Curtis, Jim Wassenberg, Gary Wassenberg, David Wassenberg, Steve Wassenberg and Loren Wassenberg. Burial was in the church cemetery. Pete was born September 9, 1930, at Marysville to Benjamin and Mary (Voet) Wassenberg. He graduated from Marysville High School in 1948, and served in the U.S. Army. Pete was honorably discharged on December 16, 1961. He received a National Defense Service Medal for his service. On October 17, 1970, Pete married Billie J. Foote at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Owensburg, KY. He worked as a dairyman and managed a motel. Pete was a member of St. Gregory’s Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. Preceding him in death were his parents; brothers, Bernard Wassenberg, Louis Wassenberg, Joseph Wassenberg and Maurice Wassenberg; and sisters, Rosemary Brungardt, Dorothy Wassenberg, Elizabeth Wassenberg, and Rita Van Gaasbeck. Survivors include his wife, Billie; brother, Eugene Wassenberg; and nieces and nephews. A memorial fund will be designated later and contributions may be sent in care of Kinsley Mortuary, Marysville.
