Paul G. Skalla, 57, Beattie, died Saturday, September 26, 2009, at Community Memorial Healthcare in Marysville. A service was held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, September 30, at Kinsley Mortuary. The Rev. Dale Lewis officiated. Jane Sedlacek played the organ and sang “My Chains Are Gone” and “Peace in the Valley.” Pallbearers were Terry O’Neil, Doug O’Neil, Terry Rottinghaus, Todd Rottinghaus, Dan Schmitz and Gary Bergmann. Burial was in Beattie Union Cemetery. Paul Skalla was born August 27, 1952, at Marysville, the son of Gail and Mae Johnson Skalla. He graduated from Summerfield High School in 1970. He married Francie Henrey and they later divorced. He married Julie Stromitis in 1982. They divorced in 1996. He worked for Peschel Brothers as a tractor and farm equipment mechanic and drove a delivery truck. He also farmed and drove a grain truck. He enjoyed going to auctions to collect scrap iron. Survivors include his mother; brother, Gary, Beattie; sister, Nancy Martin, Sterling, CO; children, Jay Skalla of Kansas City, Jeff Skalla of Olathe, KS, Brian Skalla of Rushsprings, OK, Mandi Daniels of Bonner Springs, KS, Chris Skalla of Beattie, and Anna Skalla of Beattie; and eight grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father. A memorial fund has been established and will be designated at a later date. Contributions may be sent in care of Kinsley Mortuary.
