Eugene F. Wassenberg, 84, Marysville, died Friday, August 4, 2017 at the Frankfort Care Home, Frankfort. Visitation was Monday, August 7, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Kinsley Mortuary, Marysville. A rosary service was held at 7:00 p.m., Monday, at St. Gregory’s Catholic Church in Marysville. Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, August 8, at St. Gregory’s Catholic. Father Nathan Haverland officiated. Sterling Clark was the organist and Rachel Massoth was the vocalist. Music included “Amazing Grace”, “Here I Am Lord”, “Behold the Lamb”, “Precious Lord, Take My Hand”, and “Song of Farewell”. The pallbearers were Steve Voet, Jeff Altwegg, Jerry Stallbaumer, Jim Wassenberg, Mark Wassenberg, and Loren Wassenberg. Burial was in St. Gregory’s Catholic Cemetery, Marysville. Eugene was born March 28, 1933 at Marysville to Benjamin and Mary (Voet) Wassenberg. He graduated from Marysville High School and farmed and ran a dairy with his brother, Pete. Eugene enjoyed watching sports and spending time with his grandchildren. On May 4, 1963, he married Arlene Stallbaumer at Baileyville. She preceded him in death in 2010. Others preceding him were his parents; brothers, Bernard Wassenberg, Louis “Bud” Wassenberg, Joseph Wassenberg, Maurice Wassenberg and Wilfrid “Pete” Wassenberg; and sisters, Rosemary Brungardt, Dorothy Wassenberg, Elizabeth Wassenberg, and Rita Van Gaasbeck; and a grandchild. Eugene is survived by sons, David Wassenberg, Steve (Barb) Wassenberg, Gary Wassenberg; daughters, Karen Curtis, Vicki (Josh) Volle and Gina (Steve) Nietfeld all of Marysville; eleven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. A memorial fund is established to Meadowlark Hospice or St. Gregory’s Catholic Church. Contributions may be sent in care of Kinsley Mortuary.
