Marjorie Jean Livingston

Marjorie Jean (Jeannie) Livingston, 92, Topeka, died Tuesday, September 19, 2017 at St. Francis Hospital in Topeka. Marjorie was born and raised in Marysville, Kansas. Visitation was Friday, September 22, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Kinsley Mortuary in Marysville. A rosary service began at 7 p.m. The funeral service was at 10 a.m., Saturday, September 23, at St. Gregory’s Catholic Church in Marysville; burial followed at St. Gregory’s Catholic Cemetery. Father Daniel Schmitz officiated. Rosemary Forst accompanied the choir as they sang “Be Not Afraid,” “Servant Song,” “You Are Mine” and “How Great Thou Art.” Marjorie was born on October 15, 1924, to Nils B. and Anna M. (Rickson) Nork. She attended St. Gregory’s School and graduated from Marysville High School before working for Grosshan-Peterson in Marysville. On August 13, 1945, she married Lionel (Gary) Livingston at St. Gregory’s Catholic Church. Marjorie and Gary had five children before they moved to Topeka in 1956, where their youngest two children were born. After Gary’s death in 1974, Marjorie worked for the State of Kansas as a records clerk until she retired in 1992. Marjorie always enjoyed reading, working the daily crossword puzzle, and watching her favorite TV shows. She also loved to bake and work with her hands to crochet and make crafts. Her children especially remember the sock monkeys, footstools, and rugs that she made. Marjorie was a devoted Catholic, and her faith was a central part of her life. She belonged to Sacred Heart Parish in Topeka and the oblates of the Benedictine Sisters of Atchison. In addition to her parents and husband, Marjorie was preceded in death by her two sisters, Mary Gaston and Shirley Lawrence, and her grandson, Jason Ballinger. Survivors include her children, Stephen (Donna) Livingston, Kansas City, KS; Mary (Ken) Roe, Topeka; Michael (Eileen) Livingston, Topeka; Peggy (Bob) Longstaff, Topeka; Anita (Jim) Doyle, Overbrook; Larry (Kristi) Livingston, Shawnee; and John (Nanette) Livingston, Topeka, her two brothers, Jim Nork, Marysville, and Jack Nork, Topeka, and her seventeen grandchildren and twenty-one great grandchildren. A memorial fund has been established in her name, and will be designated at a later time.
