David V. Forst, 77, formally of the Wamego/St. George area, passed away October 11, 2009 at his home in Marysville. A rosary service was held at 7:00 p.m., Monday, October 12, at St. Gregory's Catholic Church in Marysville. A funeral service was held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, October 13, at the church. Father Anthony Putti officiated. Bob Welch played the organ while the church choir sang “Here I Am Lord”, “Prayer of St. Francis”, “On Eagles Wings”, “Song of Farewell” and “How Great Thou Art”. Pallbearers were Ken Forst, Tim Forst, Paul Forst, Richard Forst, Bill Manges and Frank Manges. Burial was in the Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Frankfort. David was born February 4, 1932, northwest of Axtell, KS, the son of George, Sr. and Lenora (Manges) Forst. In 1949 he graduated from Frankfort High School and then helped his father farm northwest of Blaine until going into the Army in 1953. He went to Ft. Leonard Wood, MO and Ft. Ord, CA for basic training and then served at Elmendorf Air Force Base 813th in Alaska, where he worked on a radar site. He was honorably discharged in 1955. Between 1955-1960, he worked construction in Missouri, Oklahoma and Kansas. From 1960-1972, he farmed northeast of Westmoreland until he had to quit farming due to his first heart attack. He then moved his family to the Wamego/St. George area, and worked at Kansas State University from 1972 until retiring in 1996. He was a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus, Butler Council #2278, Blaine, KS, and a member of the Blaine Senior Citizens, K-State Retirees, American Legion in Frankfort, KS, Heart Shockers and St. Gregory’s Catholic Church. On April 20, 1963, he was united in marriage to Gladys Wilhelm at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Seneca, KS. She survives of the home. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Gilbert in infancy and James Forst; and his sister-in-law, Lou Ann Forst. Other survivors include one son, Jerry Forst and wife Theresa of Marysville; one daughter, Donna Grubaugh and husband Steve of Berryton, KS; three grandchildren, Coleman and Michaela Forst and Elizabeth Grubaugh; two brothers, George Forst, Jr. of Tecumseh, KS, and Ted Forst of Frankfort; and four nephews and seven nieces. Memorial contributions may be made to the Meadowlark Hospice, American Heart Association, St. Gregory's Catholic School or Blaine Knights of Columbus and sent in care of Kinsley Mortuary, Marysville.
