Steven Dale Vineyard, 67, Lawrence, formerly of Marysville, died September 30, 2017 at his home. A funeral service will be 1:30 p.m., Thursday, October 5 at the United Methodist Church, Marysville. Visitation will be one hour prior to service. Burial will be in the Marysville City Cemetery. Steve was born on November 21, 1949 in Marysville to Willis Dale and Thelma (Calkins) Vineyard. In 1967, he graduated from Marysville High School and from Ft. Rucker Flight School in 1969. Steve served in the U.S. Army and served two tours of duty as a helicopter pilot in Vietnam. Steve had a great knowledge of mathematics, which led to his career as a surveyor with the Union Pacific Railroad. He surveyed land from Chicago to California for new track to be laid. He was one of the first surveyors to be trained in surveying using computers. He worked for the Union Pacific Railroad for 35 years. A proud and devoted veteran, Steve always supported their causes. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and Vietnam Helicopters Pilots Association. He enjoyed playing cards, rebuilding cars, hunting and fishing. Steve married Jeri Swim. They later divorced. He was preceded in death by his father. Survivors include his mother, Thelma Connell, Lawrence; children, Desiree Nietfeld, Marysville, Dena Noe, Wray, CO, Jamie Rathbun, Ellsworth, and Curtis Vineyard, Kansas City; sister, Karen Dummermuth, Lawrence; brother, James Vineyard, Lawrence; and seven grandchildren.
