Doris F. (Bartley) Perez, 80, Marysville, passed away Tuesday, October 24, 2017 peacefully at her home. She was born February 16, 1937 at Marysville, KS. She was the youngest of 9 daughters of Phillip and Effie Bartley. She graduated from Marysville High School in 1955. In her first marriage, she lived in Anchorage for 5 ½ years. They raised dogs and she loved running the dogsled. She later divorced. In March 1970 she married Jake Perez and they raised Barbara and Gerald. She was a life-long, active member of the First Christian Church in Marysville. She enjoyed their Lenten Lunches, Soup Day, quilting group, choir and being a Deacon for over 28 years. She was in charge of the Lenten Lunches and Soup Day for many years; she cooked chili for Soup Day for 47 years. She was financial secretary, CWF treasurer, and on various committees including Memorial, Search, Stewardship, and Worship. Doris was involved with the Women of the Moose since 1976 and held the following positions: Junior Graduate Regent, Senior Regent in 1985 to 1986, Deputy Graduate Regent, Recorder, and College of Regents. She was a homemaker while her children were in school. It was important to her to be home when they came home each day from school. As they got older, her employments included selling Avon, running a Ceramic shop with her oldest sister Viola, working at the MHS cafeteria, and cashier at Dank’s. She loved a variety of crafts including sewing clothes, crocheting, making jewelry, putting together quilts, quilting and going to quilting bees. She enjoyed making things for other people. Other hobbies included reading, music, dancing at the Moose Lodge, bowling, traveling, playing Bingo and going to the casino. She also loved to cook and try new recipes. She was a loving and caring wife, mother, and grandmother. She had a generous heart and always wanted to do for others and will be missed. Survivors include her husband Jake; daughter Barb, of Spring Hill; son Jerry (Michelle) of El Dorado; grandsons Dalton and Julian of El Dorado; cousin Henry Parker of Manhattan, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and sisters Viola Cooksey, Beulah Ellis, Edna Erle Bartley, Vera Bartley, Veda Durham, Janice Yates, Clarice Morriss, and Phyllis Oshel. Visitation was Sunday, October 29, from 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. The family received friends from 4 to 6 p.m. The funeral was held Monday, October 30, at 10:00 a.m. at the First Christian Church in Marysville. Rev. Lynn Dickson and Rev. Jerry Zanker officiated. Deb Landoll played the organ while Wayne Kruse sang “The Lord’s Prayer” and “Amazing Grace”. The congregation sang “How Great Thou Art”. Burial was in the Marysville City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. Jude’s Children Hospital or Shriner’s Children Hospital.
