Mary Darleen Young, 89, of Marysville, Kan., and formerly of Oketo, Kan., died October 31, 2017 at the Frankfort Community Care Home. Visitation was Thursday, November 2, from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Kinsley Mortuary. The family received friends from 5 to 7 p.m. A funeral service was held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, November 3, at the Marysville United Methodist Church. Rev. Dale Lewis officiated. Gail Gilkerson was the organist. Music included “Lord, I Need You” and “Amazing Grace”. The pallbearers were Nolan Schramm, Matthew Young, Damon Young, Sarah Doyle, Travis Meyer, and Richie Mick. Burial was in the Oketo Cemetery. Mary Darleen Young was born June 5, 1928 in Axtell, Kan., to Merle and Vera (Wahlen) Haner. When she was in the sixth grade she moved with her family to Oketo where she continued her education graduating from Oketo High School in 1946. On May 17, 1947 she married Robert Young at the Marysville Methodist Church. Darleen and Bob farmed in the Marietta and Oketo area all their lives. In 1991, they retired from farming and moved to Marysville. They continued to enjoy their hobbies of attending auctions and volunteering at the Moose Club where she held many offices. Darleen enjoyed canning and cooking family meals for the holidays. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers Richard Haner, Donald McCully, and infant brother Kenneth; and two sisters, Ruth Brandt and Janice Fincham. Survivors include her husband, Bob; children, Patricia (Jim) Schramm, Marysville, Michael (Jocelyn) Young, Oketo, Connie (Dan) Doyle Beatrice, Neb., and Todd (Marcie) Young, Oketo; brother, Galen (Anne) Haner, Portland, Ore.; sister-in-law, Darlene Haner, Marysville; twelve grandchildren, twenty-one great-grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established for Oketo Methodist Church or Meadowlark Hospice. Contributions may be sent in care of Kinsley Mortuary.
