Edgar "Dick" Crome

Edgar “Dick” Crome, 101, of Bremen, Kan., died November 7, 2017 at the Centennial Homestead Nursing Home in Washington, Kan. Visitation will be Wednesday, from noon to 8 p.m. at the Hanover Mortuary in Hanover. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, November 9 at Immanuel (Hermansberg) Lutheran Church north of Bremen. Burial will be in the church cemetery with Military Honors provided by the Hanover American Legion. The pallbearers will be Todd Crome, Scott Crome, Jason Crome, Joey Crome, Chad Crome, Joel Force, Aaron Oehmke, and Robert Gleue. Edgar was born April 9, 1916, near Bremen, son of Fred and Elizabeth (Wasserman) Crome. He attended Bremen South grade school and graduated from Marysville High School in 1935. When he was 15, he began driving loads of livestock into St. Joseph, Missouri after the school day. He retired from driving at age 83. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. On November 29, 1943, he married Selma Gleue at the Immanuel Lutheran Hermansberg Parsonage. They lived near Bremen their entire lives after his honorable discharge from the Army. Dick enjoyed his grandchildren, fishing, and playing softball and baseball. He was a lifelong member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church where he served on the Financial Committee. He was also a member of the Hanover American Legion. Survivors include his wife, Selma; sons, Gary (Linda) Crome, Bremen, Wayne (Nancy) Crome, Hanover, Kirk (Mary Ann) Crome, Washington, and Mark (Beverly) Crome, Bremen; ten grandchildren; and twenty-four great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Fred Crome; sister, Katherine Gaede; infant siblings; and one great grandson. A memorial fund has been established and will be designated by the family. Contributions may be sent in care of the Hanover Mortuary.
