Alice L. Rowland, 97, Marysville, died Thursday, November 23, 2017 at Bryan West in Lincoln, Neb. Visitation was Monday, November 27, from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Kinsley Mortuary in Marysville. The family received friends from 5 to 7 p.m. A funeral service was held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, November 28 at the United Methodist Church in Marysville. Rev. Dale Lewis and Rev. Mitchell Fisher officiated. Gail Gilkerson and Ashley Mason were the musicians. Music played was “That Blessed Home,” “How Great Thou Art,” “Amazing Grace” and a recording of “I’m Yours". The pallbearers were Rust Jones, John Flora, Rick Shanks, Reed Bradley, Dan Parmentier and Shawn Polachek. The honorary pallbearers were Gene Holcomb, Kevin Parmentier, Cory Bradley, Steven McLarney and Jack Holcomb. Burial was in the Marysville City Cemetery. Alice was born on the family farm at Sheridan, MO on November 15, 1920 to John William and Gracie Fern (New) Fisher. She graduated Sheridan High School in 1941. On March 24, 1966, she was united in marriage to Virgil K. Rowland and moved to Marysville. Alice worked as a nurse’s aide, waitress and a sales clerk. She joined the United Methodist Church in 1966 and taught 1st and 2nd grade Sunday school, for around 30 years, and helped with Bible School each year. She was a member of Eastern Star, NARV, UP Old Timers, American Legion Auxiliary and the VFW Auxiliary. Alice volunteered at the hospital, RSVP and would visit the patients at the hospital and nursing homes. She would give people rides to doctor and hair appointments. Alice loved and looked forward to Fisher Family reunions, with her brothers and sisters and their families and the Christmas reunions in Missouri. She enjoyed driving to St. Joseph and Savannah to see and spoil her grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Virgil; son, Melvin Holcomb; sisters, Leveda Fisher, Janice Girard, Mary Franklin, Florella Johnson and Gracie Shanks; brothers, Howard Fisher, Chauncy Fisher, Raymond Fisher, Ernest Fisher, Arthur Fisher, John Fisher and Orlin Gene Fisher; and a granddaughter, Ali deKoning. Survivors include her daughter, Kathryn Stanton, Savannah, MO; step daughter, Linda Rowland, Frankfort; seven grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, several great-great grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. A memorial fund is established and will be designated later. Contributions may be sent in care of Kinsley Mortuary, Marysville.
