Eileen Matilda Emma Saathoff, 83, of Marysville, died Tuesday, October 27, 2009 at Community Memorial Healthcare in Marysville. A funeral service was held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, October 30 at Immanuel Lutheran State Line Church north of Marysville. Rev. Travis Panning officiated Racheal Theye played the organ while granddaughter, Carissa Horton, sang "Here I Am Lord" while the congregation sang the refrain. The congregation also sang "The Old Rugged Cross" and "How Great Thou Art". Nick Kosar played postlude on the piano. Pallbearers were Jay Hiltgen, Troy Crow, Harvey Mintzmeyer, Steve Schotte, Pat Schotte and Tom Holle. Burial was in the church cemetery. Eileen was born December 21, 1925 near Johnson, NE, the first of nine children born to Edwin and Clara (Stutheit) Oestmann. She was baptized in January 1926 at Martin Luther Lutheran Church in Johnson, NE. After school she worked as a maid and nanny for families with illness or newborns in the Johnson area. On August 3, 1956, she married Harold Saathoff at the Martin Luther Lutheran Church. They were very close and she enjoyed spending time together before he preceded her in death on February 28, 2003. She also worked for the Beatrice Lutheran Hospital in the Surgical Department and as a Nurse's Aide at Community Memorial Healthcare in Marysville. She enjoyed spending time with her flowers, garden, quilting, embroidering, taking walks, word puzzles, listening to music and watching Wheel of Fortune. She especially enjoyed her grandchildren who called her "Grandma Over the Bridge". She was a member of the Do-Gooder's Club, Crestview Extension Unit and WELCA. She was also preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Roy and Larry Oestmann; and brother and sister-in-laws, H.D. and Rick Mintzmeyer. Survivors include one son, Clayton Saathoff and wife Tracy of Marysville, KS; one daughter, Nancy Owen and husband Ivon of Concordia, KS; seven grandchildren, Ivon III and Dalton Owen of Concordia, Carissa Horton and husband Scott of Junction City, KS, Cameron Bruna of Aurora, CO, Nicholas Dittmer and wife Becky of Bennett, NE, Cole Dittmer of Marysville, and Jared Dittmer of Lincoln, NE; one great-grandchild, Aiden Horton; two sisters, Lois Othmer and husband Les of Tecumseh, NE, and Rosae Lee Crow and husband Bill of Marysville; four brothers, Lester Oestmann and wife Ellen of Johnson, NE, Adolf Oestmann and wife Connie of Tecumseh, NE, Harlan Oestmann and wife Betty of Talmage, NE, and Ronald Lee Oestmann and wife Beverly of Shenandoah, IA; and sister-in-law, Kay Williamson of Johnson, NE. A memorial fund has been established and will benefit the Immanuel Lutheran State Line Church, Cancer Society and the Heart Association. Contributions may be sent in care of Kinsley Mortuary.
