Esther C. Gibson, 85, Oketo, died Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2009, at her home. A service was at 10 a.m., Monday, Nov. 2, at Kinsley Chapel in Marysville. The Rev. Gary Phillips officiated. The organist was Jane Sedlacek, and Kathy Rueger sang “The Old Rugged Cross,” “How Great Thou Art” and “Amazing Grace.” Casket bearers were her grandchildren. Burial will be at a later date in Mission Creek Cemetery west of Summerfield. Esther Gibson was born on Feb. 8, 1924, at a farm near Bremen, the daughter of William J. and Renata L. Pennekamp Geihsler. She was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Hermansberg, and attended Immanuel Lutheran School-North. She graduated from Marysville High School and then worked at Armour Creamery. She married Dean P. Gibson on June 6, 1944, at Marysville. She enjoyed reading, crocheting, gardening and taking care of her flowers, and especially feeding and watching the birds. Survivors include her husband; three sons, Steven D., Oketo, Jerold L., Afton, Iowa, and Daniel G., Merriam; a brother, Victor Geihsler, Elmhurst, Ill.; a sister, Helen Geihsler, Denver; 12 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; a granddaughter, Shelly Lyn Gibson; brothers Walter, Wilfried, Paul “Gary” and two infant brothers; and sisters Renata, Elma, Etheline and one infant sister. A memorial fund has been established and will be designated at a later date. Contributions may be sent in care of Kinsley Mortuary.
