Arlo E. Plegge, 83, of Home, Kan., died December 18, 2017 at the Frankfort Community Care Home in Frankfort, Kan. Visitation was Thursday, December 21, from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Kinsley Mortuary in Marysville. The family received friends from 5 to 7 p.m. A funeral service was held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, December 22 at the Evangelical United Church of Christ in Marysville. Rev. Julie Shields officiated. The pallbearers were Rod Nolte, Francis Kroeger, Ryan Nincehelser, Scott Day, Brad Koch, and Arlin Krebs. The honorary pallbearers were Dave Schwarz, Paul “Peewee” Zimmerling, Ron Kjellberg, Gene Peschel, Jim “Duke” Schramm and Whitey Blocker. Burial was in the Marysville City Cemetery. Arlo was born December 18, 1934 to August and Minnie (Pronske) Plegge at Marysville. In 1952, he graduated from Marysville High School. On June 27, 1954, he was united in marriage to Inez Frerking. They had three children, Linda, Doug, and Pat. They later divorced. Arlo ran a dairy with his brother, Herb, north of Marysville until 1969. He then worked running telephone cable and later at Coca Cola in Marysville. Arlo and Inez operated the Oketo Korner Inn before buying the filling station in Home, Kan., and starting Plegge Oil. He operated Plegge Oil until retiring. Retirement didn’t last long. He purchased Little Hap’s in Home and operated until retiring again. Arlo loved playing cards and especially Euchre with his friends in Home. He also enjoyed working and watching sports, especially football. He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Ernie Plegge. Survivors include his children, Linda (Butch) Schmitz, Marysville, Doug (Janet) Plegge, Frankfort, and Pat (Billy) Pratt, St. Croix, VI; brothers, Ralph Plegge and Herb Plegge, both of Marysville, and Walter Plegge, Beatrice, Neb.; 5 grandchildren; 5 step grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; and 18 step great-grandchildren. A memorial fund is established to the Home City Firehouse or Meadowlark Hospice. Contributions may be sent in care of Kinsley Mortuary.
