Roy W. Hanson, 94, of Marysville, Kan., died December 24, 2017 at Community Memorial Healthcare in Marysville. Visitation was Thursday, December 28, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Kinsley Mortuary in Marysville. A rosary service was held at 7:00 p.m., Thursday, at St. Gregory's Catholic Church in Marysville. A funeral service was held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, December 29 at St. Gregory's Catholic Church. Father Nathan Haverland officiated. Rosemary Forst played the organ while the church choir sang “Be Not Afraid”, “Amazing Grace”, "Precious Lord, Take My Hand” and “How Great Thou Art”. The pallbearers were Robert Marquardt, Josh Marquardt, Bob Watts, Jim Seeberger, Austin Watts and Brock Watts. The honorary pallbearers were Kaylee Marquardt, Rachel Marquardt, Angela Litavis, Tim Benton, Maxine Reynolds, Dennis Mason and Lorri Watts. Burial was in St. Gregory's Catholic Cemetery. Roy was born January 3, 1923 at Marysville, the youngest child of Hans and Sena (Ungerman) Hanson, Jr. In 1941, he graduated from Marysville High School and then attended the U.S. Aircraft School in Wichita. After graduation he worked for Firestone, EW McGrade Manufacturing Company, where he met his wife. He also worked at Boss Motors, L.J. Messer, Cooksey Auto Parts and the U.S. Postal Service, where he worked 27 years before retiring in 1989. On August 28, 1945, he married Jeanette Seeberger at St. Gregory’s Catholic Church. Roy was a member of St. Gregory’s Catholic Church, where he served on the church council, was a Eucharistic Minister and a Sacristan. He was an honorary life member of the 3rd and 4th Degree Knights of Columbus. For 50 years, he was a member of the Marysville Fire Department, serving as president, captain and secretary-treasurer. He was a member of the American Postal Workers Union, National Association of Retired Federal Employees, Marshall County Historical Society and Retired Senior Volunteer Program.Roy enjoyed walking with his wife, reading and watching sports. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Jeanette, December 25, 2016, three brothers, Louis Hanson, Carl Hanson and Paul Hanson; four sisters, Eva Downard, Agnes Rock, Alice Leistner and Marie Tanner; and a grandson, Justin Marquardt. Survivors include two daughters, Jean (Tim) Benton, Grafton, MA, and Judy (Robert) Marquardt, Kansas City, MO; grandchildren, Angela Litavis, Kaylee Marquardt, Rachel Marquardt, and Joshua Marquardt; and great-grandchildren, Drew Litavis, Brendan Litavis, and Emma Litavis. A memorial fund has been established to St. Gregory’s Catholic School or church. Contributions may be sent in care of Kinsley Mortuary.
