Elaine P. Brown, 88, of Axtell, Kan., died January 3, 2018. Visitation will be Sunday, January 7, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Axtell-Landreth Funeral Home in Axtell. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, January 8, at the United Methodist Church in Axtell. Jose Eston-Cruz will officiate. Lila Alfers will be the pianist. Marilyn Rogers will sing “I Can Only Imagine”. The congregation will sing “In the Garden”, “Old Rugged Cross” and “Just as I Am”. The pallbearers will be Wayne Detweiler, Eric Detweiler, Vince O’Toole, Dave Wiebe, Grant Lackey, and Gary Lackey. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Axtell. Elaine was born March 7, 1929 on the family farm northwest of Beattie, Kan., daughter of Nelson and Agnes (Stroemer) Jones. In 1947, she graduated from Beattie High School. On February 12, 1950, she married Clarence Brown at the United Methodist Church in Beattie. They farmed northwest of Axtell where they raised their two sons, David and Leon, before moving into Axtell in 1973. Elaine enjoyed walking, drawing and doing crossword puzzles. She was a member of Women of the Moose in Marysville where she served as The Senior Regent and put in countless hours of volunteer work. She was also a member of the United Methodist Women at the United Methodist Church in Axtell and was a volunteer of RSVP in Marysville. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Clarence on October 5, 2011; and brother-in-law, Harold Shubert. Survivors include her sons, David (Karen) Brown, Axtell, and Leon (Diane) Brown, Topeka; sister, Lorraine Shubert, Topeka; two grandsons, Cory and Thad, both of Axtell; two step grandchildren, Heather Davis, Grandview, Mo., and Shane Davis, Tampa, Fla.; and four great-grandsons, Cody of Pensacola, Fla., and Nicholas, Austin and Tristin, all of Marysville, Kan. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established to the Axtell United Methodist Church. Contributions may be sent in care of the Axtell-Landreth Funeral Home.
