Lee Affholder, 83, of Oketo, KS, died Tuesday, December 22, 2009 at his residence. A funeral service was held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, December 26, at the United Methodist Church in Oketo. Rev. Dale Lewis officiated. The organist, Deb Landoll, played prelude and postlude. Rev. Dale sang "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Here I Am Lord". Pallbearers were Josh Affholder, Chris Affholder, Johnny Tod Willey, Seann Denham, Kim Fralin and Keil Mick. Burial was in the Oketo Cemetery. Lee was born September 17, 1926, at Oketo, the son of Elmer and Jennie (Carson) Affholder. One June 2, 1951, he married JoAnn Willey at Seneca, KS. He served in the U.S. Navy aboard the U.S.S. Horace A. Bass. He graduated from the Southern Police Academy and retired from the Kansas Highway Patrol as Captain in 1981. He was a member and Past Commander of the Barneston American Legion Post 356, Lifetime member of the VFW, Mason and Shriner, Mayor of Oketo and served as President of the Oketo Fire Department. Lee was an active Boy Scout Leader and youth baseball coach. He enjoyed his grandchildren and fishing. Survivors include his wife, JoAnn; two sons, Rick (Linda) Affholder, Salina, KS, and Terry (Linda) Affholder, Stilwell, KS; three sisters, Katie Frees, Houston, TX, Alice Jay, Dallas, TX, and Nancy Sandifur, Oketo; two brothers, Bill and Bob Affholder, Arizona; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Merwin, John and Jim Affholder; and three sisters, Crystal Williams, Eilleen Becker and Donna Hoppensted. A memorial fund has been established and will be designated at a later date. Contributions may be sent in care of Kinsley Mortuary.
