Lois Lueers, 85, of Marysville, passed away Thursday, February 4, 2010, at her home. A funeral service was held at 10 a.m., Monday, February 8, at the United Methodist Church in Marysville. The Rev. Dale Lewis and Rev. Kathleen Whitmore officiated. Deb Landoll played the organ, Bud Schuette and Perry Potter played the brass, and the congregation sang “Hymn of Promise” and “Praise to the Lord Almighty”. Granddaughter and clarinetist, Bethany Lueers, played “Adagio”. The pallbearers were Jack Prall, Bruce Prall, Dennis Cashier, Marvin Kramer, Richard Lillibridge and Michael Whitmore. Burial was in the Marysville City Cemetery. Lois was born July 28, 1924, at Melville, Iowa, the daughter of Herbert and Esther (Sanow) Ford. She graduated from Marysville High School in 1942. On January 1, 1950, she married Jerome D. Lueers. Lois was office manager at Armour’s and Perry Packing Company and became a homemaker after marrying Jerome. Lois was active in PTA and served as president, was a Sunday school teacher from her high schools days until the age of 80, and helped establish the Marshall County Food Pantry in Marysville, serving on the board for 20 years. Along with her husband, she served on the board of the Marshall County Historical Society. She was awarded the Paul Harris Fellow from Rotary. Lois established various scholarships locally and throughout the state and was a strong supporter of the Johnson Cancer Center and Kansas State University. She was an original and 66 year member of the Phi Omega Pi Sorority. She was also a member of Euchre Club, Bridge Club, Pinochle Clubs, Hop Creek Club, Investment Club and United Methodist Church in Marysville. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jerome D. Lueers on October 24, 1989; one daughter, Nancy Lueers; and three sisters, Maxine Ketchell, Verla Smith and Dorothy Ford. Survivors include one son, Jim Lueers and wife Cathy of Pittsburgh, PA; one daughter, Bev Lueers, Topeka, KS; one brother, Don Ford and wife Carol of State College, PA; and four granddaughters, Elisha, Holly, Bethany and Celeste. A memorial fund has been established to the Jerome D. Lueers Family Cancer Research Fund, KSU Foundation, Attn: Sheila, 2323 Anderson Ave., Suite 500, Manhattan, KS 66502-2911.
