Edward E. Hynek, 91, Hanover, died Feb. 9, 2010, at Hanover Hospital. A service was held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, February 16 at St. John’s Catholic Church, Hanover. The Rev. David Metz officiated. Janet Fritschi played the organ as the church choir sang "I Heard the Voice of Jesus,” “How Great Thou Art,” “On Eagles’ Wings” and “How Lovely Is Your Dwelling Place.” Pallbearers were Dennis Doebele, Loren Doebele, Rick Doebele, Lester Bruna, Lavearn Goeckel and Russ Luehring. A rosary was prayed at 6:30 p.m. Monday at the church. Edward Hynek was born July 5, 1918, at Narka, the son of Frank and Tenie Barnett Hynek. His mother died when he was 3 years old. He lived with his sister and brother in law, Stella and Wes Nespor. He went to Washington High School. He married Virginia Brown on April 28, 1973. He worked at O.K. Service, Hanover. He was in the military, serving during World War II in Germany as a tech sergeant. He returned to work at O.K. Service for 60 years. After retirement, he worked half days there. He enjoyed keeping cars clean and shiny like new. Survivors include his brother Glen Hynek, Fergus Falls, Minn.; stepson, Larry Thomas, Omaha; four step-grandchildren; and four step-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, in 2009; parents; brothers Adolph and Lewis Hynek; and sisters, Stell Nespor and Bessie Hanshaw. A memorial fund has been established and will be designated at a later date. Contributions may be sent in care of the Hanover Mortuary.
