Wilson C. Svoboda

Wilson C. Svoboda, 92, of Marysville, passed away Friday, February 19, 2010 at his home. A rosary service was held at 7:00 p.m., Monday, February 22, at St. Gregory's Catholic Church in Marysville. A Mass of Chrisitian Burial was held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, February 23, at the church. Father Robert Hasenkamp officiated. Rosemary Forst was the organist. Music included "I Am the Bread of Life", "Prayer of St. Francis", "O Lord I Am Not Worthy", "Song of Farewell" and "How Great Thou Art". The pallbearers were Frank O'Neil, Raymond O'Neil, Duane Ehnen, Dennis Schroller, Tom McGuire and Dennis McGuire. Burial was in St. Gregory's Cemetery. Wilson was born November 18, 1917 at Virginia, Neb., the son of James and Josephine Svoboda. He graduated from Barneston High School, Barneston, Neb., in 1935. He proudly wore his U.S. Army uniform for his country during WWII where he served in the European campaign. On May 17th, 1945, he married Elaine Alders at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Barneston. He was self employed for 22 years in the service station business in Marysville. In 1969 he retired from the service station business and was employed by Price Auto Supply and Ehnen Automotive. He was a member of the American Legion Post 163 of Marysville for sixty two years. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, KU Basketball and growing vegetables in his garden. Survivors include his faithful caregiver for the last eight years and only child Tim Svoboda; twin brother, Woodrow Svoboda of Barnestion Neb.; and sister, Irma Wallace of Hartwell, Georgia. He was preceded in death by his wife Elaine; parents; and two brothers, Edward and Arnold. A memorial fund has been established and will be designated at a later date.
