Arlene A. Wassenberg, 66, of Marysville, passed away Saturday, February 27, 2010 at Community Memorial Healthcare in Marysville. A rosary service was held at 7:00 p.m., Thursday, at St. Gregory's Catholic Church. A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, March 5, at the church. Father Anthony Putti officiated. Laura O’Neil played the organ while Paula Landoll-Smith led the choir in singing “Be Not Afraid”, “Prayer of St. Francis”, “On Eagles Wings”, “You Are Mine” and “How Great Thou Art”. The pallbearers were Loren Wassenberg, Jerry Stallbaumer, Andy Kibble, Matt Wassenberg, Mark Wassenberg and Jim Wassenberg. Burial was in the church cemetery. Arlene was born May 20, 1943 at Axtell, KS, the daughter of Victor H. and Alvina (Deters) Stallbaumer. On May 4, 1963, she married Eugene Wassenberg at St. Gregory's Catholic Church. She was preceded in death by her parents; and one granddaughter, Cheyenne Volle. Survivors include her husband, Eugene Wassenberg; three sons, David, Steve & Gary Wassenberg; three daughters, Karen Curtis, Vicki Volle and Gina Wassenberg, all of Marysville; two sisters, Grace Shepard of Port Saint Lucie, FL, and Rita Pyle of Sibley, MO; one brother, John Stallbaumer of Pawnee City, NE; eleven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. A memorial fund has been established to the American Cancer Society or to St. Gregory's Catholic Elementary School. Contributions may be sent in care of the funeral home.
