Karla Renee Barnes, 29, of Marysville, KS, died Tuesday, March 9, 2010 at her home. In February 2007 she was diagnosed with Ewing's Sarcoma. A funeral service was held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, March 13 at the United Methodist Church in Marysville. The Revs. Dale Lewis & Gerry Sharp officiated. The pallbearers were Alva Meade, Tom Becker, Mike Isaman, Aaron Barnes, Robert McFadden, Kenneth Vernon, Tom Schoenberger and Dr. Randy Brown. Burial was in the Marysville City Cemetery. Karla was born April 20, 1980 at Westmoreland, KS, the daughter of Marlin & Connie (Isaman) Schwant. She graduated from Frankfort High School in 1999. Karla worked at the Frankfort Community Care Home, Cambridge Place, CMH Long Term Care and also operated Karla's Daycare in Marysville. On May 5, 2001 she married Jason Barnes at the Christian Church in Washington, KS. Karla was a devoted wife and loving mother who loved spending time with her family during her long battle with cancer. She was an inspiration to many for her strength and positive outlook on life. She will be greatly missed by her husband, children and the many people whom lives she touched. She was preceded in death by her father, Marlin Schwant. Survivors include her husband, Jason; their children, Trevor, Cody & Faith; mother, Connie Smith and husband John of Manhattan; three brothers, Jeff Schwant and wife April of Topeka, Bradley Schwant and wife Becky of Manhattan, Steven Schwant of Blaine; one sister, Stacy Askins and husband Ron of McFarland, KS; grandfather, Glen Isaman of Vermillion; parents-in-law, Steven and Debra Barnes of Washington; grandmother-in-law, Ramona Ouellette of Washington, two sister-in-laws, Sherri Becker and husband Tom of Marysville, Shaunna Meyer and husband Rod of Manhattan; and one brother-in-law, Aaron Barnes of Lawrence. A memorial fund has been established and will be designated at a later date. Contributions may be sent in care of Kinsley Mortuary.
