Thelma Marie Bitterli

Thelma Marie Bitterli, 91, of Marysville, passed away Saturday, March 27, 2010 at Cambridge Place. A funeral service was held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 30, at the United Methodist Church in Marysville. Rev. Dale Lewis officiated. The musicians were Karen Bramlage, Susan Duell and Robyn Yates. The soloist, Scott Spilker, sang "Beyond the Sunset”. The pallbearers were Jody Griffeth, Brian Gross, Gary Griffeth, Gene Griffeth, Steve Friedrichs and Dave Friedrichs. The honorary pallbearers were Jared Griffeth, Jerry Gross, Tami Wenthold, Joyce Jones, Matthew Griffeth and Brett Griffeth. Burial was in the Marysville City Cemetery. Thelma was born on November 4, 1918 at Beatrice, NE, the daughter of Lloyd R. and Minnie Kate Webb Griffeth. She graduated from Beatrice High School in 1935. On February 14, 1954 she married Armin J. Bitterli at Beatrice. He preceded her in death on May 30, 1992. She was also preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers, Lewis and Harold Griffeth. During World War II she worked at Dempster's Defense Plant in Beatrice, taught in rural Nebraska schools for several years, and also worked at State Savings & Loan and the ACME Paint & Wallpaper store in Beatrice. After her marriage she helped with the farming. Thelma was a member of the United Methodist Church, the Hilda Chapter #164 of the Order of Eastern Star, and the Hop Creek Social Club. She enjoyed reading, sewing, gardening, her membership in the Hop Creek Social Club, and the many neighbors and friends whom she made during her time of living in Marysville. It took Thelma longer to shop because she would always stop to smile and talk to babies and little children whether she knew them or not. A memorial fund has been established to the church.
