Carol Cohorst, 75, Marysville, died Saturday, March 27, 2010, at Grantville. A rosary service was held at 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 30, at St. Gregory's Catholic Church in Marysville. A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, March 31, at the church. The Rev. Anthony Putti officiated. Rochelle and Robert Calhoun sang “Be Not Afraid,” “Prayer of St. Francis,” “I Can Only Imagine,” “Song of Farewell” and “On Eagles’ Wings.” The pallbearers were Josh Cohorst, Jared Soppe, Steven Hoak, Bryant Jones, James Hartshorn, Jerry Hartshorn, Caleb Jones and Paul Johnson. The honorary pallbearers were Jason Cohorst, Jeremy Cohorst, A.J. Lederer and Dylan Jones. Burial was in the church cemetery. Carol was born July 4, 1934, at Cheyenne, Wyoming, daughter of Granville and Emma (Evers) Berkley. On January 27, 1951, she married George Cohorst. She was a homemaker. She and her husband also raised four of their grandchildren, Christine Daniels, Amy Detimore, Steven Hoak and Angela Willard. She was a member of St. Gregory’s Catholic Church, Marysville; Old Timers’ Club; Extension Homemaker Unit, National Association of Retired and Veteran Railway Employees and was a 4-H leader. She enjoyed camping with the Good Sams group, gardening, dancing and especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. Survivors include her son, Robert Cohorst, Olathe; daughters, Suzan Early, Grantville, Virginia Soppe, Meriden, Janis Myrick, Topeka, Jerriann Lederer, Meriden, Laura Hartshorn, Tonganoxie, and Kathi Jones, Marysville; her sister, Roberta Bergen, Durham, N.C.; 25 grandchildren; and 36 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her brothers, Bobbie, Ed, Norman and Ray Berkley; and her sister, Marilyn Welters. A memorial fund has been established and will be designated at a later date. Contributions may be sent in care of Kinsley Mortuary.
