Myrtle Emma Dorthea Bluhm Koeneke, 91, of Bremen, went to the loving arms of her risen Savior on Palm Sunday, March 28, 2010 at Cambridge Place in Marysville, KS. A funeral service was held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, April 1, at Immanuel Lutheran Church near Bremen. The Rev. Jack Kirk officiated. Kathy Pralle played the organ while the church choir sang "Because He Lives" and "What a Friend". The congregation sang "I Know that My Redeemer Lives" and "Lift High on the Cross". The pallbearers were David Schaefer, Chip Freeman, Jonathan Holle, Jacob Holle, Travis Vogt and Eric Fong. Burial was in the church cemetery. Myrtle was born October 11, 1918 near Herkimer, KS, daughter of Albert and Christine (Dierking) Bluhm. She was baptized at home and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Herkimer. On December 2, 1945 she married Lavern G. Koeneke at Zion Lutheran Church. They were blessed with four children, LeAnn McCready, Joyce Holle, Shirley Koeneke and Wanda Freeman. They were married 34 years when Lavern died in a farm accident in 1980. She served her Lord in Ladies Society and the LWML. She enjoyed being outdoors, growing flowers, gardening and quilting. They were dairy farmers near Bremen for over 30 years. She enjoyed the times when her grandchildren and great-grandchildren would visit. Survivors include her four daughters and three sons-in-law, LeAnn and Wes McCready of Owasso, OK, Joyce and Gary Holle of Bremen, Shirley Koeneke of Roeland Park, KS, Wanda and Mike Freeman of Shawnee, KS; two sisters, Velma Duensing of Marysville, and Loine Beckmann of Longmont, CO; one brother, Vernon Bluhm of Escondido, CA; and one sister-in-law, Florence Bluhm of Beatrice, NE; seven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lavern; parents; one sister, Hilda Koeneke; and one grandchild, Joshua Holle. A memorial fund has been established to the church.
