Kathleen I. Carpenter, 77, of Marysville, died Saturday, March 27, 2010 at Cambridge Place in Marysville. A memorial service was held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, April 3, at Kinsley Mortuary in Marysville. Rev. Joel Barber and grandson, Shawn Edwards, officiated. Kathy was born August 27, 1932, near Frankfort, KS, the daughter of Myron and Creo Jones Long. She married Howard Stryker. Three children were born to this union. She later married Art Carpenter. Kathy did bookwork and taxes for many people and ran restaurants in the community. After taking the Civil Service test she worked at K-State for a short time before moving to El Dorado where she became a SRS Case Manager working with juvenile girls. After retirement, she moved to Eureka Lake where she enjoyed watching the many birds around the lake, working in her yard, visiting with friends and taking care of her cats. She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; one brother, Richard Long; and an infant sister. Survivors include two sons, Howard Rusty Stryker and wife Mary of Marysville, Jerry Stryker and wife Misty of Eureka, KS; one daughter, Brenda Edwards and husband Rocky of Marysville; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. A memorial fund has been established to the American Lung Association. Contributions may be sent in care of Kinsley Mortuary.
