John Meeks of Marysville died Saturday, May 1, 2010 at Cambridge Place. A funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, May 3, at Kinsley Mortuary. The Rev. Marilyn Sweet officiated. Deb Landoll played the organ while Wayne Kruse sang "The Old Rugged Cross" and "How Great Thou Art." The pallbearers were Jerry Meeks, Tyler Meeks, John Gardner, Jake Gardner, Ian Gardner, Jeff Milner, Jeremy Milner and Johnathon Milner. Burial was in the Marysville City Cemetery. John was born November 11, 1935 at Frankfort, KS, the son of Harry L. and Geraldine O. (Gibson) Meeks. He graduated from Marysville High School in 1953 and served in the U.S. Navy from 1955-61. On May 27, 1988 he married Lucy at Houston, TX. John worked for the Union Pacific Railroad as a Locomotive Engineer for 30 years before retiring. He was a long-time member of the American Legion. John was an avid fisherman and also enjoyed gardening. He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Harry J. Meeks. Survivors include his wife, Lucy, of the home; one son, Jerry J. Meeks, Olathe, KS; and two grandchildren, Tyler R. Meeks and Emily A. Meeks. A memorial fund has been established in John's name and will benefit St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
