Fern Faye Jones

Fern Faye Jones, 96, passed away May 16, 2010 in Leavenworth, Kansas. She was a longtime area resident of Frankfort, Kansas. A funeral service was held be at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, May 20, at the United Methodist Church at Frankfort. The Rev. Norma Jeane Miller officiated. Janet Plegge played the organ while Lorene Shearer sang “In the Garden” and “Hymn of Promise”. The pallbearers were John Jones, Ken Myers, Bob Dallas, William Hanis, Matt Nincehelser and William Budenbender. Burial was in the Barrett Cemetery south of Frankfort. Fern was born February 22, 1914, at Beatrice, Neb., the daughter of Harry and Meta Coates. In her early career, she was a secretary for the Gage County Courthouse in Beatrice. In July 1941, she married William Paul Jones and moved to their farm near Frankfort. She was an active partner in their farming operations during their fifty years of marriage. As a homemaker and a parent of four children, Fern enjoyed a very active life -- always willing to help others. She was a member of the Frankfort First United Methodist Church, Eastern Star, Mother’s Club, and Senior Citizens. As a 4-H Club parent, she taught many cooking and sewing classes and loved to help everyone prepare for the Marshal County Fair. She enjoyed baking, gardening, sewing, reading, using her computer for email, and spending time with friends and family. After Paul passed away, in December 1991, Fern continued to handle records and administrative tasks for her farm trusts. She enjoyed living alone, on one of her farms, until she was nearly 95 years old. Survivors include her four children, William P. Jones, Frankfort, Harry P. Jones, Leavenworth, KS, Keith S. Jones, Lawrence, KS, and Allene K. Hanis, Colorado Springs, CO; eight grandchildren, Danielle LePique, Kansas City, MO, Audra Trudell, Shawnee Mission, KS, John Jones and Andrew Jones, Leavenworth, Christina Montalva, Denver, CO, Paul Hanis, Kennicott, AK, Angela Hanis, Japan, and Rachel Nincehelser, Frankfort. She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Leland Coates, Myrl Coates, and Elden Coates; and husband, W. Paul Jones. Memorials can be made to the United Methodist Church in Frankfort, and can be sent in care of Padden Funeral Chapel.
