Darlene M. Schmale, 81, of Marysville, passed away Thursday, June 10, 2010 at Cambridge Place in Marysville. A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, June 15, at St. Gregory's Catholic Church. Father Gary Pennings officiated. Delores Bruna played the organ while Michele Beaman sang “Come Home” and “Without Clouds”. The church choir sang “Here I Am Lord”, “You Are Mine” and “On Eagles Wings”. The pallbearers were Dan Hilton, Les Spence, Ron Schmale, Gary Hilton, Larry Schmale and Gary Crownover. Burial was in the church cemetery. Darlene was born May 11, 1929 at Hanover, Kansas, the daughter of William and Edna Mae Martin Kuntz. On September 21, 1954, she married Leo Schmale at Hanover, he passed away on April 20, 2003 at Salina, Kansas. Darlene worked as a waitress for Sherril's Snack Shop and the Jayhawk Cafe, both in Marysville and she was a homemaker. She has been a resident of Marysville since 1976. She was a member of St. Gregory's Catholic Church and St. Gregory's Altar Society. Darlene enjoyed reading, collecting and trying new recipes, gardening and being with her family. Survivors include, two daughters, Leora "Lee" Gallion and husband Ivan of Salina, KS., Shelly Day and husband Mike of Marysville; two sons, Daryl Schmale and wife Kim, Roger Schmale and wife Debbie all of Salina; four granddaughters, Erin Gallion, Rachel Schmale, Danielle Schmale and Chandler Day; two sisters, Laretha Estes and special friend Bud Rushe of Ontario, California, Marilyn Rogers and husband Lou of Wetumpka, Alabama; brother, Gilbert Kuntz and wife Marty of Victorville, California; and sister-in-law, Delores Kuntz of Beatrice, Nebraska. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Leo; brother, Delmar Kuntz; and granddaughter, Amy Schmale. Memorials can be made to St. Gregory's Altar Society and can be sent in care of Kinsley Mortuary.
