Joy Stewart, 94, of Marysville, passed away Wednesday, September 8, 2010 at Mercy Regional Health Center in Manhattan. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, September 11, at the First Baptist Church in Marysville. Burial will be in the Marysville City Cemetery. Joy Stewart was born April 22, 1916 at Bookwalter, Nebraska to Harvey and Laurie Smith. She grew up on several farms and attended country schools in Kansas and Nebraska. On May 11, 1933 she married Arthur Lindeen. They lived several years in Seneca and moved to Marysville in 1943 when Arthur got a job as fireman on the Union Pacific Railroad. Arthur passed away November 29, 1959; she married Walter Stewart, February 2, 1963. Walter died April 27, 1978. Joy worked at the Community Memorial Hospital several years and worked for Dr. Randall and Dr. Kelley until they retired. She then went to work for Tension Envelope until her retirement. After her retirement she was the curator at the Koester House Museum for 11 years. Joy did a lot of volunteer work until her health began to fail. Joy was a member of the 1st Baptist Church, 50 year member of Eastern Star, past Worthy matron, Member of Hilda Chapter 164, and was mother advisor 8 years for Rainbow Girls. She also was a member on the American Legion Auxiliary and V.F.W. Auxiliary, the Historical Society, Study Club and was President of the Hospital Auxiliary. Joy taught Sunday school several years and she loved to garden and raise lots of flowers. Survivors include her sons, James Lindeen and wife Verla, Charles Lindeen and wife Melva, all of Marysville; 7 grandchildren, Diane, Pat, Art, Gary, Daryl, Dale Ann and Scott, 10 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her two husbands; brothers, Clarence, Archie, Floyd and Raymond; and sisters, Vera, Mabel, Edna, Anna and Eunice. Memorial contributions can be made to the church and can be sent in care of Kinsley Mortuary.
