Gertrude I. Hawkins, 90, of Marysville, passed away Sunday, September 12, 2010 at Cambridge Place. A graveside service was held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, September 16, at Home City Cemetery. Gertrude was born to Charles and Golda (Knowles) Smith at Pawnee County, Nebraska on March 15, 1920. She graduated from Beattie High School. On May 22, 1940, she married Carl Binggeli. He preceded her in death in 1958. In 1960 she married Thomas Hawkins and he preceded her in death in 1972. Gertrude ran the cafe in Home during the 1950's and worked as a cook for the Beattie schools. She was a member of the Friedens Lutheran Church in Home. Her parents; son, Doyle Binggeli; sisters, Esther, Leah Deane, Doris; and brothers, Millard, Dale, Clifton and Robert, preceded her in death. Survivors include her sons, Charles Binggeli (Sherrie) of Lawrence, Ed Hawkins of Home, Harold "Pete" Binggeli (Boni) of Midland, TX; daughters, Carla Svanda (Jim) of Washington, Mary Rueger (Harold) of Lincoln, NE; sister, Colleen Lewis (Bill) of Topeka; sister-in-laws, Ruth Smith of Beattie, Marge Smith of Frankfort; eleven grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren.
