Robert E. Shubkagel, 88, of Frankfort, KS, died Monday, October 4, 2010 at the Wamego City Hospital. A funeral service wsd held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, October 8, at the United Methodist Church in Frankfort. The Rev. Norma Jeane Miller officiated. The musician were Moogie Roeder and Steve Gleason. The honorary pallbearers were Steve Morton, Craig Morton, Mike Caffrey, Rod Tolle, Chris Shubkagel and Eric Shubkagel. Burial was in Mt. Hope Cemetery, south of Frankfort. Robert was born October 30, 1921 near Frankfort, KS, son of Edward Henry and Leda Garnet (Bailey) Shubkagel. After graduating from Frankfort High School in 1940 he entered the U.S. Army. He served 3 1/2 years mostly overseas. Then he returned to Frankfort and farmed with his father. On March 27, 1948, he married Ebba Elizabeth "Betty" Hanson at her parents home east of Frankfort. She preceded him in death on February 7, 2009. He owned and operated B&J Derby in Frankfort until retiring in 1986. After retiring they went to Mesa, Ariz., each winter for 15 years. Robert was a member of the United Methodist Church in Frankfort, American Legion, Masonic Lodge and VFW, where he was a Past Commander. Farming was his hobby. His wife; parents; two brothers, Marvin and Melvin, preceded him in death. Survivors include one son, Steve Shubkagel and wife Mary, Frankfort; one daughter, Linda Rousselle and husband Ken, Loveland, CO; one brother, Lloyd Shubkagel and wife Pearl Ann, Marysville; one sister, Ramona West, Gladstone, MO; and six grandchildren. A memorial fund has been established to the Frankfort Community Care Home. Contributions may be sent in care of Padden Funeral Chapel.
