Edwin L. Nutt, age 69 of Beattie, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, November 16, 2010 at Community Memorial Healthcare in Marysville. A funeral service was held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, November 19, 2010 at St. Malachy's Catholic Church in Beattie. The Rev. Jim Shaughnessy officiated. Organist Bob Welch accompanied soloist Valorie Oltman. Songs were “Lord’s Prayer,” “How Great Thou Art” and “Ave Maria.” The pallbearers were Ron Koch, Rick Koch, Mike Studer, Carl Kopp, Ryan Sweat and Ron Schnieder. The honorary pallbearers were Rod Craig, Dave Koch, Lyle Ladner, Barney Schnieder and Ron McDonald. Burial was in the Beattie Union Cemetery. Ed was born January 14, 1941 at Council Grove, Kansas, the son of Gerald and Jean (Finical) Nutt. On June 5, 1965 he married Joy D'Ann Saltzman at Overland Park, Kansas. Ed graduated from Baker University in Baldwin, Kansas and then he got his Masters Degree in Business from the University of Missouri at Warrensburg. Ed also has a degree from the Colorado School of Banking. He became a Bank Examiner for the Comptroller of Currency for 13 years. Ed then purchased the Marshall County Bank of Beattie in 1978 and remained President until 2000, when the bank was sold. He remained at the bank for 8 years and still served on the Board of the Bank Of The Prairie. He was City Clerk of Beattie, a member of the Pony Express, served as a State and National Treasurer, and also served as a Trustee for the Wuester Trust, which gave money for many high school scholarships. Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Dee (Saltzman) Nutt, Beattie; daughter, Mindy Fields, Overland Park; grandson, Ryan Sweat, Overland Park; and sister, Jana Morris, of Cave City, Arkansas. He was preceded in death by his parents; and daughter, Lori D'Ann Nutt. The family requests that memorial contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society and can be sent in care of Kinsley Mortuary.
