Helen Hartsook, 95, of Marysville, died Wednesday, December 15, 2010 at her home. A funeral service was held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, December 20 at the Marysville Berean Church. The Rev. Joel Barber officiated. Kathleen Fincham played the piane while Jack Hain sang “In the Garden”, “Amazing Grace” and “The Lord’s Prayer”. The pallbearers were Mark Hartsook, Galen O’Baner, Jared Malcolm, Jake Malcolm, Justin Mackey, Robert Peugh, Chris Claeys, Chad Vacha and Corey Tryon. Burial was in the Marysville City Cemetery. Helen was born June 15, 1915 at Red Cloud, Nebraska, the daughter of Henry and Hedwig (Dobwitz) Welsch. She graduated from Red Cloud High School. On January 6, 1935 she married Daniel Hartsook. In the early 1940's they moved to Bern, Kansas and then moved to Marysville in 1955. Helen enjoyed cooking, sewing, camping, playing piano, children and babies. She gave the best hugs. She was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Daniel, on March 13, 2005; parents; daughter, Betty Malcolm; son-in-law, Leo Malcolm; daughter-in-law, Judy Hartsook; and five brothers, Oscar, Carl, Eddie, Robert and Don Welsch. Survivors include two sons, Roy Hartsook, Marysville, Max Hartsook (Gerry Ann), Topeka; sister, Gert Twilegar, Stockton, California; six grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandsons. A memorial fund has been established to the Marysville Berean Church. Contributions may be sent in care of Kinsley Mortuary.
