Alfred Nicholas “Nick” Lewis, 79, of Axtell, KS, died Wednesday, October 4, 2023, at his home.
A private burial was held at Beattie Union Cemetery.
Nick was born on September 6, 1944, in Waynesville, MO, to Alfred J. and Ruth H. (Higbee) Lewis. He graduated from Beattie High School. While in high school, Studer Truckline taught him and many other young men how to drive a truck and maintain equipment.
On April 12, 1964, he married Mary Jane Mitchell at the Summerfield Lutheran Church. This union was blessed with one son, Jeffrey.
Throughout life, he worked with and for people that survived the Great Depression and the Dirty Thirties. Seeing this was motivation for him to always own farm ground and know how to be able to survive on it.
Nick was self-employed as an over the road driver and enjoyed going anywhere and everywhere in the forty-eight states and Canada. He thoroughly loved traveling places he had never been before and would never say no to a trip.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Jane; parents; and siblings, Roger, Johnny, Ruth Ann, David, Jerry and Byron.
Survivors include his son, Jeffrey (Susan) Lewis, Lawrence, KS; and siblings, James Lewis, Nashville, TN, Susan Lewis, Boulder, CO, Phillip Lewis, Wichita, KS, and Carolyn Jones, Beattie, KS.
In lieu of flowers a memorial fund is established and will be designated later. Contributions may be sent in care of Axtell-Landreth Funeral Home.
